Can you drive up to Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle?
No. Parques de Sintra, which runs both, does not allow private cars on the access roads, and driving in Sintra's historic centre is limited to residents. Leave the car in one of the town's car parks and go up by bus or on foot.
- Bus 434 (Scotturb) runs from Sintra railway station to Pena.
- Santa Maria trail: from São Pedro de Sintra, 1,770 m, about 1 hour.
- Villa Sassetti trail: from the historic centre (Largo Ferreira de Castro), 1,850 m, about 45 minutes.
- Seteais trail: from the Palace of Seteais, 2,410 m, about 1 h 30.
Pena Palace is entered by timed ticket. Allow about 30 minutes between the park gate and the palace door; a small transfer covers that stretch for €4.50 return, added when you buy your entry ticket. The access roads close from time to time for works or storms, so check the Parques de Sintra notices on the day.
Where do you park in Belém for the Jerónimos and Pastéis de Belém?
The Centro Cultural de Belém, across Praça do Império from the Jerónimos Monastery, has two public car parks: Car Park 1 on Rua Bartolomeu Dias and Car Park 2 on Avenida da Índia. From there the monastery, and the Pastéis de Belém bakery further along Rua de Belém, are a short walk.
- 366 spaces over two levels.
- A single daily rate of €4.00, whatever the time you stay (rate in force since 1 July 2026).
- Open every day except 25 December, 8:00 to midnight — until 2:00 on performance nights.
- Pay in cash at the machine on the ground floor of Car Park 2, or with Via Verde.
Street parking in Lisbon is run by EMEL. In its marked daily-ticket zones a full weekday, 9:00 to 19:00, costs €2.15 in green zones or €3.15 in yellow ones; EMEL is phasing in these rates from August 2026.
Where do you park for Porto's Ribeira and Livraria Lello?
- Alfândega car park, Rua Nova da Alfândega: a municipal car park in the Ribeira area, beside the old customs house, open 24 hours and run by STCP Serviços since January 2026. Pay in cash or by card at the gatehouse.
- Saba Ribeira, Rua do Infante Dom Henrique, by the garden of the same name: open 24 hours, listed by the operator at €2.65 for the first hour, maximum height 2.1 m.
- For Livraria Lello and the Clérigos tower: Saba Praça de Lisboa, across the street from the tower.
The Ribeira's riverside lanes are no place to look for a kerbside space; head for a car park and walk the last stretch.
Where do you park in Óbidos?
Outside the walls — inside, there is barely room to turn a bicycle. The municipality lists several signposted car parks around the historic centre: paid ones on the asphalted lots next to the tourist office and by the aqueduct, plus a separate paid area for motorhomes.
Where do you park in Nazaré to watch the giant waves?
The classic viewpoint is the Fort of São Miguel Arcanjo on the headland above Praia do Norte — open 9:30 to 20:30, entry €3. For summer 2026 the council listed about 2,464 spaces across Nazaré, among them Parque Atlântico up on the Sítio (365), the harbour car park (267) and the sports complex (244) down in town.
On the busiest days the council can close the road into the Sítio to anyone without a resident's permit (Municipal Regulation 829/2026). Then park down in town and ride the funicular up — it joins the beach and the Sítio.
Which central Lisbon hotels have their own parking?
In Lisbon's old quarters a hotel garage is not a given, so check before you book. These hotels state on their own websites that parking is available to guests:
- The One Palácio da Anunciada, Restauradores: a private car park on the premises (extra charge), valet parking and electric-vehicle charging.
- Valverde Lisboa Hotel & Garden, Avenida da Liberdade: valet parking into the hotel's reserved spaces in the covered car park next door.
- Pestana Palace Lisboa, Alcântara in western Lisbon: parking for guests, payable.
Hotel details as stated on each hotel's own website, autumn 2026. Car park prices and hours are the operators' published figures; they change, so confirm them on the day.
